Happy 2014 !! Celebrating Our 21st Anniversary !
It's hard to believe that it's been 10 years now since Philip and Mel became the proud new owners of Bistro Tournesol. It has been a wonderful and successful time for us, including our triumph of capturing 3 STARS from Toronto Life Magazine! But we could not have pulled it off without the continued patronage and friendship of our wonderful customers....all of our long-time regulars, Tarragon Theatre patrons and all the new friends we have made since we bought the restaurant. It is very exciting for us to be a vital part of our ever-changing North Annex neighbourhood. New upscale businesses continue to choose this area to call home including the delicious pastry shop "Frangipane" www.frangipane.ca , and elegant home decor showroom "South Hill Home" http://www.southhillhome.com/ .
Originally opened in 1993 by Yves Robert and Martha Van Reet, long-time employees Mel Bryan, Philip Lewicki and Craig Lockhart purchased Tournesol in early 2004. (Craig later left the business.) Although they undertook an extensive renovation, the proud new owners have never lost sight of Tournesol's core values: provide consistently delicious meals at a fair price in a friendly, cozy and welcoming environment.
We offer a Prix-Fixe Menu only....choose one First Course and one Second Course for $32.00 per person. Still hungry? We also offer a few add-ons such as delicious fresh Oysters from "The Oyster Boy" and a selection of delectable Desserts. Included with every meal is yummy Focaccia from "Ace Bakery" and a bowl of our famously irresistible Frites !
One area where we have expanded dramatically is in our Wine List. We currently offer a carefully selected choice of over 80 wines representing countries from around the world. Although the Olde Wine World is duly represented on our list, our primary focus is on The New World, areas such as California, New Zealand, Australia, Chile and Argentina.
Mel Bryan is responsible for the Wine List, where you will notice his particular bias instantly - Pinot Noir from California, Oregon and New Zealand. The first is a natural for Mel, as he is a former recipient of an Award of Merit from The California Wine Society for his efforts while managing the successful "Mad Apples Restaurant" in promoting and marketing fine wines from The Golden State.
Tournesol is located right around the corner from Toronto's famous Tarragon Theatre. Every night there is a performance at Tarragon, the Bistro is packed by 6pm with theatre-goers enjoying a Pre-Theatre Prix-Fixe dinner. For more information about Tarragon, check out their website....
Our dining room seats approximately 30 people and is designated 'NON-SMOKING'.
